Through the process of abstraction, I search for the interpersonal peace that comes
from accepting and forgiving past actions, whether merely perceived (or actual) wrongs
done to me by those closest to me. My paintings abstract the past events and my reactions
to them, then and now. The colours are mixed and layered intuitively as I respond to what
is happening on the canvas. By diluting the colours that represent feelings/events objectifies
them and distances them, making it easier to control, analyze, understand, or come to
terms with—to let go. The internal struggle associated with attaining my inner peace is
something that I am exploring and expressing on my canvases with the ultimate goal of gaining
peace: personal and interpersonal. |
